Baseball Fielding Drill: Quick Hands Fielding Drills

These are some great fielding drills for teaching young players to be in the proper fielding position for taking a ground ball in the infield.

In the video the Cal Ripken Great Hands Training Glove is used but these drills can also be performed with a regular sized, or under sized baseball glove.

Have a coach stand 10-15 feet in front of the player, feeding ground balls.

Drill 1: Player should be in proper fielding position, keeping feet stationary. Roll balls directly at player and have him field the ball with 2 hands, throwing it back to coach without moving his feet. Player should stay low and in proper fielding position throughout this drill.

Drill 2: Player should be in proper fielding position, keeping feet stationary. Roll balls directly at player and have him field the ball with his glove hand only, transition the ball to his throwing hand, and quickly throw the ball back to the coach.

Drill 3: Player should position himself in proper fielding position. Roll the ball to players back hand side. Player should adjust, field the ball back hand, transition the ball to throwing hand and turn and make a proper throw to coach.

Drill 4: Move and square up. Player should be set in fielding position. Roll the ball to either side and player should move in front of the ball, square up to the ball and field it with 2 hands. Alternate rolling the ball to both sides of the player.

These drills are great for developing quick feet, hands, and eye/hand coordination.
